It’s well known in the bicycle industry and amongst e-bike riders that e-bikes wear through drivetrains at a high rate, also the poor old rear derailleur getting chewed up and spat out, can’t be fun either.
With chains, cassettes and sometimes derailleurs being replaced at much higher frequencies, costing people a lot of money.
Upgrading to a 14 speed Rohloff Speedhub seems to be an intelligent option.
Rohloff’s 526% gear range with evenly spaced gears, being able to use 8-9 speed chain, that keeps a straight chain lasts longer and costs a fraction of its 11-12 speed equivalents.
Removing a large rear derailleur, replacing with a compact chain tensioner.
The Rohloff system uses a twist / grip shift shifter that is purely a messenger to the internal gear mechanism via a clicker box on the non-drive side of the bike.
There is a slight weight penalty, but hey that’s what you have the motor for isn’t it, and for 95% of the riders out there the lower maintenance is well worth it.
Plus, we think it just looks great.
JUST LOOK AT IT!
